Introduction
Digital India has played an important role in our country India. Digital India has been shown by our country’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. When our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi addressed the whole country for the first time as Prime Minister on 1 July 2015, talking about Digital India, he told everyone about Digital India in brief. The Prime Minister says that everyone will be able to join this campaign. Due to this campaign, all the countrymen can digitize their business and many of their works. Under this, all government works and documents can be kept properly. Many times, for the work, one had to stand in line to get the work done, today the same work has been done online. Today, sitting at home, any person can easily do his personal work like getting :- Aadhar card, driving license, PAN card etc. Today’s person is able to do all his work with ease. In this, every person had problems in working, but as time passed, the problems of the people also improved.
People’s problems also kept improving. Digital India was launched in India on 1 July 2015. Its objective was to reduce the inequality between technology lovers and working technology users. Under this, it tries to ensure equal access to digital technology for all types of citizens by including many other areas like education, health care and government services. The objective of Digital India is to promote economic development in our entire country by using technological advancement and innovative solutions in our country. There should be internet connectivity in every house, whether it is a village or a city, no family in every locality is living in darkness. Before the advent of Digital India, everyone used to do black marketing, but with the advent of Digital India, improvement has been seen in the work of the government. Its objective is to complete the services smoothly and easily by making all the work online. Through Digital India, everyone gets all kinds of information. Everyone should be included in Digital India in jobs.
Some of the important facilities provided through this initiative are India Digital Locker, Education, Health, Shopping Sign in and National Scholarship Portal. The Government of India has planned to launch Boat Neck Cleaning Centres as part of Digital India. The National Governance Plan of the Government of India aims to bring all leading government services online. MyGov.in is a platform for sharing inputs and ideas on valuable matters of policy and governance. It is a platform for citizen engagement through discussion and dissemination approach. Umang Unified Mobile Application for New Age Governance is a unified secure multi-channel multi-platform multilingual multi-service freeware by Government of India that provides access to more than 1200 central and state government services in multiple Indian languages on Android, iOS, Windows and USSD feature phone devices. This framework allows citizens to digitally sign documents online using Aadhaar authentication. Bank & Digital Reasons Government of India announced 11 technology initiatives in the Union Budget 2016 including use of data analytics to prevent tax evasion, Digital Literacy Mission to reach 6 crore rural families. Concept of Digital India: This concept is focused on three major area :-
- Interconnectedness of the entire nation is a prerequisite for building a well-equipped nation. High speed internet is an important component of the concept as a utility to maintain the smooth and convenient availability of various services online.
- Through this new age mission of the Government of India, Digital India Mission has taken the initiative to connect the rural areas of the country with high speed internet networks. Apart from the various initiatives taken by Digital India, many challenges have also been faced.
Some of the challenges and challenges of the Digital Mission are mentioned below:
- The daily internet speed and Wi-Fi speed have been found to be very slow here as compared to many other developed countries.
- Most of the small and medium industries have to struggle a lot to understand and adopt the new modern technology techniques.
- The limited capacity of the smartphone was found to be a problem for smooth internet access.
- It was found that there was a lack of skilled manpower in the field of digital technology.
- Keeping in mind the increasing threat of digital crime, about 10 lakh cyber security experts are needed to monitor it.
- There was a lack of education among the users.
Many initiatives have been taken by the government under the Digital India campaign, some important aspects are discussed below.:
- DigiLockers – This major initiative is to provide easy access to authentic digital documents in the digital document wallet of the citizen and digital empowerment of the citizens.
- E-Hospital: It is a hospital management information system which is a one stop solution to connect patients with hospitals and many other things related to the hospital like doctors and ambulances through digital platforms. As of February 2021, 420 hospitals had been formed under the Digital India campaign.
- E-Pathshala: Digital India has done many works in the medium of education like E Pathshala developed by NCERT displays and disseminates all educational resources including textbooks, audio video magazines and other various print and non-print materials through website and mobile app.
- BHIM- Bharat Interface for Money is considered to be an app that makes payment transactions simple, easy and quick using Unified Payment Interface UPI.
Impact of Digital India Campaign
After its launch in 2015, Digital India has left its impact in various sectors:
- More than 12000 post offices and branches in rural areas have been electronically connected.
- The electronic manufacturing sector in India has seen improvement with the introduction of Make in India initiative.
- GDP is expected to increase to one trillion dollars by 2025 through the Digital India scheme.
- Healthcare and education have also seen rapid growth.
- Improvement in online infrastructure is expected to improve the country’s economy.
Contribution of Digital India in Pandemic:
- Without the already existing digital payment options, humanity would not have come close to surviving the outbreak of Coronavirus like how long will I be able to survive?
- In this pandemic, Swiggy, Big Basket and other services on the phone prevented the entire viral scenario from getting out of control.
- The biggest use of Digital India has been seen during the pandemic. When the whole country was fighting the Coronavirus and was confined to their homes, Digital India was the only means through which the whole country could get government assistance online.
- Using its power in every industry, this digital empowerment project permeated every aspect of existence.
- Aarogya Setu has played a vital role during the coronavirus times. Aarogya Setu was essentially built into every smartphone of every person as it is a smartphone app and an Indian COVID-19 contact tracking syndromic mapping and assessment digital service.
- It was first made available in April 2020.
- After the app crossed 100 million installs in 40 days, privacy concerns were raised and the source code of the app was made available to the public on 26th.
- The Aarogya Setu mobile application was praised by the World Health Organization for its help in finding COVID-19 clusters by health departments.
The way forward
- Digital India has played a vital role in providing services to the citizens.
- The success of Digital India confirms that it has made a significant contribution to the development of the people of India.
- To take this movement further, futuristic technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Blockchain should be leveraged to take this movement forward.
- The government needs to explore all the possibilities and move rapidly to cut through the digital device.
- The private sector should be encouraged to provide end-to-end connectivity to make a significant contribution to Digital India in rural and remote areas.
